QUIZ EVENINGThe Quiz Evening was unfortunately cancelled. It will be rescheduled in the new year. Woldingham VCC has had one its best seasons ever. Having entered the Surrey Downs League for the first time it has finished champions of the 4th Division and will be promoted next season - they won 19 out of their 23 games and only lost 1. The new formula of playing league games on Saturday and 'friendly' games on Sundays has worked well. WVCC seeks to promote its younger players and of these captains, Barnaby Annan and Brian Carby both had very good seasons; leading their teams to victory on virtually all occasions. We always welcome new players. This season the regular players have been joined by several new players and it is hoped most of these will continue to play for the club. It is anticipated that when Woodlea School are able to use the all weather practice facilities, as part of their sports curriculum, more youngsters will be introduced to the game and a colts team will be formed in Woldingham. One of our younger players, James Dunn, scored his first 50 this season making 74. He has recently gone to Tanzania for 9 months volunteering with an organisation called Village Africa. He took with him a bat signed by many club members and supporters and plans to teach the villagers to play. Plans for development of the club are progressing well. The new sight screen (£1,600) was delivered in April and plans for the all weather practice net facility are well advanced, the ground has been prepared and the order placed for installation of the batting end. Our grateful thanks to the Craigmyl Glebe Committee for making available funds to clear the site of surplus soil and also for providing such excellent facilities. Woldingham has one of the most attractive cricket grounds in the Surrey Downs League. Fund Raising activities have
progressed very well and we have now raised £5,700 towards our target of
£11,000 We have decided to install the all weather practice net in two phases;
batting (£7,000) and bowling (£3,500) ends separately and install
the batting end and nets now. The club would welcome sponsorship from either corporate or private bodies. Such sponsorship could involve advertising on kit or equipment, please consider helping us.
