The cricket season has started! Woldingham Village Cricket Club (WVCC) had a good start; winning both their first 'friendly' match and were also successful in their first game in the Surrey Downs League at the beginning of May. Hopefully the rest of the season will continue in the same way. WVCC has a busy season ahead - league games will be played either home or away on Saturday and the 'friendly' games on Sunday most weekends. The club welcomes new players (or spectators) do make yourself known to a member, or join us for a cup of tea when we play our home games. All standards of play can be accommodated so please come and speak to us. Fund raising continues - since the first event in November 2007 almost £5,000 has been raised towards the target of £10,000. This sum is needed to purchase new equipment and an all weather practice net facility which will enable players to have year round access to training facilities. These facilities will also be utilised by the pupils of Woodlea School. The specification for all weather practice net has now been researched and the site agreed; it is hoped work will soon start in preparing the ground ready for installation. This will involve moving some 75 cu. m. of soil - so yet another working party will be arranged! The new sight screen has already been purchased and was constructed ready for the first game of the season - just! The sight screen is made of PVC which will eliminate some of the upkeep necessary with the old style. The club would welcome sponsorship from either corporate or private bodies. Such sponsorship could involve advertising on kit or equipment, please consider helping us. If you think you may be able to help please contact: Club Captain: Dion Gomesz
