PRESS RELEASE FROM THE POLICE

4 October 2005
Front door damaged in arson attack

Police are appealing for witnesses after the front door of a house in Woldingham was damaged in an arson attack early last Sunday morning (2 October 2005).
The offenders approached the house on Clare Court some time between 12:40 and 1:00am and poured an accelerant through the letterbox before setting alight to it. The sole occupant was asleep in the house at the time of the attack. He was awoken by his smoke alarm and with the assistance of a neighbour was able to extinguish the fire.
Investigating Officer PC Chris Veale said:
"Fortunately no one was injured in the fire but clearly the outcome could have easily been a lot worse. I would like anyone who remembers seeing anything suspicious around the address at any point that night to please come forward with information."
PC Veale can be contacted at Caterham Police Station on 0845 125 2222.
A similar offence occurred at a neighbouring house on 27 July this year when the front door was also set alight. Police can not confirm at this stage whether the two incidents are connected.
Call 0845 125 2222 for all non-emergency policing matters.
Call 999 if you have a genuine emergency requiring the attendance of the police (eg a crime is in progress or someone is in immediate danger).
Call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 if you have information about crime and don't want to leave your name.

A BIG THANK YOU!

Many thanks to everyone who helped in the Village Litter Pick on Saturday 24 September. It's made such a difference - Thank You! For your diaries - the next Litter Pick Day is Saturday 22 April 2006.

YOU CAN STILL SUPPORT THE 2005 MOONWALK! £4,000 RAISED TO DATE.....

16 brave (foolhardy?) Woldingham ladies, and men, joined the world' largest power walking marathon in London overnight on 18 June. We donned our fabulously decorated bras (yes - even the guys) and strode out to raise funds for Breakthrough Breast Cancer and Bristol Cancer Help Centre. Breakthrough has a dedicated research lab which is finding ways to both prevent and cure breast cancer. Bristol cancer care provides holistic support for people with cancer and their supporters.

We are looking to raise as much as we can for these worthwhile causes and hope Woldingham will support us. Donations are still welcomed so to pledge your donation however small. With your help, we can make a difference. Call Jill on 652024

Thank you - The Woldingham Wibbley Wobblies
