Changes to the free bus pass scheme

Elderly and disabled residents who qualify for free bus travel will soon need to visit one of 23 Surrey libraries to apply for their pass.

From 1 April 2011 district and borough council offices will no longer manage requests and renewals for the concessionary passes.

More than 180,000 elderly or disabled Surrey residents currently hold a pass and collectively take 6.9 million free bus journeys each year.

From April 2011, pensioners will be able to travel from 9.30am to 11pm on any bus in Surrey, for free, while disabled passengers have unlimited travel. Current bus passes can be used until they reach their expiry date.

There are three easy steps to access your free bus pass:
• Find out about the criteria for a free bus pass online or by phone
• Check which documents you need to take with you
• Visit one of these libraries to claim your pass:

Addlestone, Banstead, Camberley, Catherham Hill, Caterham Valley, Cranleigh, Dorking, Egham, Epsom, Esher, Ewell (Bourne Hall), Farnham, Godalming, Guildford, Haslemere, Horley, Leatherhead, Oxted, Redhill, Staines, Sunbury, Walton and Woking.

For more information visit www.surreycc.gov.uk/freebuspass, use our SMS text service 07527 182861, call 03456 009 009 or pick up a leaflet at your local library.

URGENT SUPERFAST BROADBAND ACCESS IN WOLDINGHAM - DON'T MISS OUT

Many of you may remember how long it took to get ADSL Broadband to Woldingham.

BT are now starting to deploy optical fibre, very fast Broadband. As more video and movie services such as iPlayer gain popularity we will all desperately want this fast Broadband service.

BT will prioritise major towns and cities first. At 750 households we are below their 1,000 threshold. Below this level BT will not prioritise installation. However, if 75% of households register interest they will then prioritse its installation. So we need to mobilise and register. Doing so is just a click away, costs nothing, makes no commitment, and will take but a minute. Please note that all households with a regular phone line should register. Do so even if you don't have a BT Broadband product. BT's call this their 'Race to infinity'.
>Click here to register then enter your post code, click skip intro, click the 'vote now' button and supply your line/service details.

Woldingham Village Event

When the organisers of the Woldingham village picnic and the Woldingham Association's 111th Anniversary celebrations got together there was only one threat to a great family day out - the weather!
However suntan lotion was the order of the day and over 350 residents spent what one picnicker described as "a relaxing afternoon for family and community."

Serenaded by the Oxted Silver Band attendees inspected a fine selection of veteran and vintage cars, played croquet or visited the Glebe pavilion to inspect memorabilia associated with the history of the Woldingahm Association. The theme of the exhibition was how The Association has over the years protected Woldingham and culminated in a map of Woldingham showing all proposed but refused development since circa 1910. The exhibition also covered specific campaigns such as The Proposed Channel Rail Link and the purchase of Marden Woods by residents for the Woodland Trust.

After a relaxed luncheon with Pimms and smoked salmon much in evidence it was time for the Dog Show. With categories such as " The Scruffiest Dog" and "Dog and Owner Look Alike" Crufts does not have to worry. The show was a great success with the behaviour of the dogs prompting mirth and emotion. An enduring image of a small dog in the most obedient dog class, his lead gripped firmly in its jaws, performing perfectly without any involvement from the owner!

As the Oxted band packed their instruments and the ladies raising money for the Glebe playground appeal raffled their remaining cakes there was a marked reluctance by most to end what had been a perfect day.

1st Woldingham Scout Group have had a fantastic year so far, with over 35 children attending each week across the Beavers, Cubs & Scouts! We have organised action packed programmes for them all and have just taken on a new Cub Leader, but are looking for more uniformed and non-uniformed assistance to cover all areas. There is no age restriction!

Station Parking Survey Results

Thank you to those residents who completed the survey. Regrettably there wasno clear concensus on the way forward and no clear mandate for any action. Not even for the already agreed increase in yellow lines in the station bell mouth and Woldingham Road.
Only 29 (32%) of respondents would “support” or “strongly support” the most
popular choice of attempting to buy land next to the existing TDC Car Park. Click here for the full survey results.

Low flying jets over Woldingham

All residents are encouraged to complain to Biggin Hill Airport about low flying jets over Woldingham. The airport "hotline" to call is 01959 578580. The more of us that call the better as it will add pressure to the formal protests sent by the Parish Council.
