Eusebia Hope Foundation

Eusebia Karega lived in Igoji, a village in Kenya.  In 2004, she decided to help the growing number of children in her village who had been abandoned or orphaned, often as a result of HIV/ Aids.  Every day, after her long shift as a midwife, Eusebia went  home to cook for the children waiting at her door. Eusebia died in 2013, but her work continues.  It is led in Kenya by her mother, Teresa, and in the UK by her daughter, Christine.

The Eusebia Hope Foundation (EHF) is the UK charity supporting this provision of unconditional help for the children.  It is run by a group of Woldingham residents, who share Eusebia’s belief in the African proverb:
‘It takes a whole village to raise a child’.

Eusebia Hope provides:
  • EHF provides shelter, food, medicine and education for about 50 children of all ages. Teresa looks after the children, helped by a part-time teacher and a part-time nurse.
  • The children live on a small rented plot of land. Their only shelter is a tin shack, with room for 20 at the most.
  • EHF wants to build a dormitory, kitchen and classroom block, which would cost less than £8,000.
  • Providng one child with basic food, medicine & education costs £96 per year (£8 per month).
  • Donations to EHF attract Gift Aid, meaning a UK taxpayer can make even more of a difference.
What have we achieved so far?

Thanks to the generosity of donors, EHF has already been able to make a big difference to the lives of the children. The children received good quality clothes in the right sizes and were thrilled with these donations from their peers in the UK.

The children have a cow to provide some dairy produce and with the provision of seeds and tools, the children have grown much of their own food… but there is still much more to be done: the children need a roof over their heads and the security of knowing that the money for their food, health, education and sanitation is assured for more than a month at a time.

EHF have just completed a 2 room building which was officially opened by the local officials on the 10th of March 2017. We have also rented some land to grow our own crops to cut the cost of buying.

How can you help?

EHF is very grateful for all donations. A little really does go a long way here. 100% of donations is spent in directly on meeting the children’s needs. Thank you.

Sponsor A Child

For just £8 per month, EHF can give a child 3 simple meals per day, essential medical treatment and an education.  Would you or anyone you know be able to support one of the children in this way? To set up a standing order, please use the bank details below.

Help Build Their Future

As well as securing day-to-day living costs, EHF is trying to raise £8,000 to replace the tin shack with a proper building. And EHF must meet any other capital need that the children may have. Any donation towards these costs makes a big difference.
