Notification of major gas works: Station Road, Woldingham
Further to my last communication in December about our upgrade of our gas network in Station Road and Northdown Road, Woldingham, I would now like to provide an update about our plan for this work. This essential work involves the replacement of old metal gas mains with new plastic pipe to ensure we continue to provide a safe and reliable gas supply to the local area. Our contractor KLT Construction will undertake this work on our behalf.
We have been working closely with Surrey County Council and other key stakeholders to plan our work to ensure we minimise disruption to the local community.
As previously stated we are planning to start our work on Station Road on Monday 8 April 2019 when weather and road conditions will be less likely to cause additional disruption.
From Monday 8 April, we’ll have two teams of engineers working in Station Road as explained below.
Northern work area – between Woldingham Road and Croft Road (appox. 20 weeks)
For everyone’s safety, we need to temporarily close Station Road around our work area as we progress from Woldingham Road to Croft Road. Access will be maintained for residents, and a signed diversion route will be in place for through traffic. We also need to install temporary traffic lights on Church Road/Woldingham Road at the junction of Station Road for the first two weeks while we are working in this junction to ensure everyone’s safety and maintain traffic flow.
The local bus between Caterham Tesco and Woldingham Church Road will also be diverted. The operator has arranged their own diversion route and plan to contact their customers to arrange pickups. They anticipate delays of approximately 5-8 minutes for each trip.
Southern work area – between Croft Road and Slines Oak Road (appox. 32 weeks)
Our second team of engineers will now be working on Station Road from the junction of Croft Road towards the junction of Slines Oak Road. To ensure everyone’s safety around our work area we’ll need to install temporary traffic lights as we progress along Station Road between these junctions.
We will have two signed diversion routes in place throughout our work as described below, one for non-HGV traffic and one specifically for HGV’s due to carriageway restrictions.
Non-HGV diversion – Woldingham Rd – Hallilloo Valley Rd – Limpsfield Rd – The Ridge – Northdown Rd.
HGV diversion – Wapses Roundabout – A22 Godstone Rd – Hillbury Rd – Westhall Rd – The Green – Limpsfield Rd – The Ridge – Northdown Rd.
Our engineers will be working extended hours Monday to Friday between 8am and 6pm and on Saturdays between 8am and 4pm to carry out reinstatement as required. We are mindful of those people who live in the area and will try to minimise noisy activities where possible.
Once this work is complete, we need to carry out further upgrades in the area, including the previously mentioned phase on Northdown Road. We’re continuing to plan this in consultation with Surrey County Council and I will share details of this with you once confirmed.
We understand that people can get frustrated by roadworks. However, the new plastic pipe has a minimum lifespan of 80 years. This means that when the work is complete, Woldingham residents and businesses will continue to enjoy the benefits of a safe and reliable gas supply for years to come.
