A note from the Chairman on the Parish Council 2018-2019 accounts
The Parish Council issued our 2018-2019 unaudited accounts and shared them at our Annual Parish Meeting in May 2019. While the overall expenditure and financial position detailed in the accounts have not changed, we have reviewed our spending powers more closely and more accurately reflected what is known as section 137 spend (general expenditure not granted under a specific power).
The Parish Council has fairly wide ranging expenditure powers to protect and improve our village. When powers are not specifically delineated, they fall under what is known as Section 137 of the Local Government Act 1972. This statutory power gives councils the power ‘to incur expenditure for purposes not otherwise authorised.’
We are publicising our unaudited 2018-2019 Accounts with the revision to our notes on expenditure categories:
