Parish Council – News Update, October 2018
New Councillor
In our June meeting, the Parish Council agreed to co-opt Scott Irvine as a fellow Councillor. Scott formally joined us at our July meeting. If you might be interested in joining the Council, we still have one vacancy to fill. Meanwhile, please join us in welcoming Scott to the Council. Scott moved to the village with his wife in 2014 and has since had two beautiful daughters. Becoming a parent helped him to meet a number on other families in the village, particularly via the 123 Club. Scott has joined the WPC to make a more active contribution to life in our wonderful village. Scott works in banking, with a focus on food and beverage companies, and enjoys time with his family, travel and cycling (but struggles up the local hills). He dreams of a cycling cafe being established in Woldingham!
Works in process include CCTV on Church Road. Foliage is being removed to ensure visibility for the CCTV. The speed signs for the village are also in our possession. We await Surrey County Council approved contractors to install the signs. Surrey County Councillor and Council Leader David Hodge is helping to progress this work. The investigation of costs to make good Croft Road to Surrey County road standards is still under way. Contractors appear to be in no hurry to help but we continue to try to understand the costs and the viability of bringing the road to standard in the hopes of it being adopted by SCC. In July, the WPC also agreed to support the History Society for its fine work in the village with a £250 contribution. And the WPC further agreed to support the effort to save our historical bus shelter and will contribute £725, provided £1000 in funds is charitably raised.

Improvement to our Village Centre
While some details and final agreements are still being resolved we are pleased to announce that The Glebe, Scouts and Village Hall are working together with the Parish Council to make the long expected change in the centre of the village a reality. Watch the space in October/November when we should be saying goodbye to the storage containers and hello to contractors to start clearing shrub and trimming hedges, being phase 1 of the project. This should enable a new permissive way from Slines Oak Road to the Crescent, with a spur to a new Glebe children’s playground area and to join up with the service road. A lot of discussion and collaboration has gone into reaching this point and it’s exciting that we will now see the visible output!
