Update on gas works in Woldingham – February 2020 onwards
Update from SGN:
We are writing to update you on the next phase of work taking place in Woldingham. As you will hopefully be aware, our project involves the essential replacement of the old metal gas mains and service pipes to the individual properties, with new plastic pipe to ensure we continue to provide a safe and reliable gas supply to the local area. Our contractor KLT Construction LTD will undertake this work on our behalf.
In continued close consultation with Surrey County Council, Woldingham Parish Council, the Woldingham Association and other key stakeholders we have agreed to complete the following work, which includes traffic management in place to ensure the safety of everyone around the site:
Team 1
- Until Mid-March 2020, the team are continuing to work in Park View Road
- The team will also be completing work on Southdown Road
- From Mid-March 2020, the team will be move to work in Long Hill for approximately 2 weeks, starting past the primary school and working to where Long Hill becomes an unmade road
- Once Long Hill is complete, the team will be working in High Drive for approximately 15 weeks
- After which we have a small section of main to replace in Croft Road beyond the junction of High Drive
We plan to carry out our work in Long Hill, High Drive and Croft Road under ‘Give and Take’ traffic management, vehicle and pedestrian access will be maintained throughout.
Team 2
- Until early April, the team will continue working in Lunghurst Road
- After Lunghurst Road, we will be working in Northdown Road for approximately 14 weeks
- We need to implement a full closure of Northdown Road. Our engineers will start at the junction with Station Road and work towards The Ridge
- Please note, access to the golf course will only be possible via The Ridge initially
- Once our engineers have progress past the golf course, access will switch to be from Station Road until the end of the works
- Signed diversions will be in place throughout
- Vehicle access will be maintained for residents throughout
- Please note, the duration of our work is longer than previously stated due to our experience with the complexity in replacing similar services to properties in the area
- We need to implement a full closure of Northdown Road. Our engineers will start at the junction with Station Road and work towards The Ridge
- Once Northdown Road is complete, we will move onto The Ridge for approximately 16 weeks, from the junction with Northdown Road/Gangers Hill to the junction with Chalkpit Lane
- To complete our work, we will need to implement a road closure on The Ridge
- Signed diversions will be in place throughout
- Furthermore, we will implement two-way signals around the junction with Northdown Road and Gangers Hill
- Vehicle access will be maintained for residents throughout
Our engineers will be working extended hours Monday to Friday between 8am and 6pm and on Saturdays between 8am and 4pm to carry out reinstatement as required. We are mindful of those people who live in the area and will try to minimise noisy activities where possible.
We understand that people can get frustrated by roadworks. However, the new plastic pipe has a minimum lifespan of 80 years. This means that when the work is complete, residents and businesses will continue to enjoy the benefits of a safe and reliable gas supply for years to come.
Please share this information with anyone you think may be impacted by our work. Thank you in advance for your patience and understanding while we carry out these essential upgrades.
