News from TDC: Smart Motorway works on M23 Jns 8 to 10
The development of the M23 Smart motorway near Gatwick airport from junctions 8 and 10, is set to continue with advanced works this month.
Initial CCTV works will begin on Monday 23 April which will be followed by the installation of narrow lanes on Monday 18 June to allow a safe working place for the road workers. During construction three narrow lanes will be maintained at speeds of 50mph. The main construction works will begin later that month.
Both lane closures and full closures overnight will be necessary during construction. Full closures will take place between 10pm and 5am and diversions will be clearly signed. All closures will be subject to change and weather dependent.
Smart motorways aim to reduce congestion and improve journey time reliability by making the hard shoulder available as a traffic lane and using variable speed limits to smooth traffic flow.
