Appeal – Winter Clothing for Ukraine

As Winter heads to Ukraine temperatures will drop to well below zero. The Rotary Club of Oxted is urgently collecting all types of winter clothing to send there e.g. thermals, jumpers, old ski wear, sleeping bags and blankets.

BOOKS IN BOOTS – charity book sale in the Village Car Park this Saturday!

7.30am – 12pm Books in boots of cars – 1 person at a car boot at a time unless in family groups – donations put in pots – all books have been ‘aired’ literally for in excess of 72 hours and wiped down with bleach solution – handled with gloves – we have tons of books including lots of children’s books. So please come along and tell everyone – all funds go to Woldingham School and Caterham School for PPE Materials.

Chance to win tickets to the Edenbridge and Oxted Show

All Tandridge Together Lottery players on Saturday 3 August will not only be in with a chance of winning £25,000, but will also have a chance to win one of three pairs of tickets to the Edenbridge and Oxted Agricultural Show which takes place on 25 and 26 August 2019.

The two day event is held at the Ardenrun Showground in Lingfield and with each adult ticket holder, any number of children can visit for free, making this a wonderful family day out in the district. The Show combines all the favourites of a traditional agricultural show along with family entertainment, rides, experiences and lots of food and shopping stalls.

To date the lottery has had over 3000 lucky winners winning more than £30,000 worth of prizes ranging from £2,000, £250 or £25 cash prizes and free extra tickets.

Lottery tickets cost £1 and all profits go to good causes in the Tandridge district. Anyone buying a ticket can select the local good cause they want to support from those registered.

145 good causes have so far signed up to benefit from the lottery including community centres, sports clubs and charities supporting a range of needs. It’s free for good causes, which must operate within the Tandridge District, to register to benefit from the Tandridge Together Lottery.

‘A Tower in Need’ – please support this Church appeal

Please help to fund essential repairs to the tower of your parish church!

Rainwater gets into the tower of St Paul’s Church in Woldingham in bad weather. If this is not put right, the problem, and the damage it causes, will only get worse. Essential repairs will cost around £68,000, to which the Church will contribute £25,000. Our appeal therefore aims to raise £43,000.

What is the problem?
For many years there have been problems with water penetration in the tower. When damage from the explosion of a land mine in the Second World War was repaired the wrong mortar was used to repoint the flints. More recently the lead covering on the roof has deteriorated. Rainwater seeps down between the outer and inner surfaces of the tower walls to stain the inside of the baptistery at the back of the church. Professional advisers say that repairs must now be put in hand, to avoid continuing, and potentially more dangerous, damage to the church fabric.

Why does it cost so much?
The estimate is based on competitive tenders from four contractors. Scaffolding will have to be erected to the top of the tower, which alone will cost nearly £20,000. Substantial repairs are needed to the outside of the tower, its roof and the flagpole supports.

Who should contribute?
We are asking all residents of the Village, as well as other friends of Woldingham, to consider contributing to the appeal. St Paul’s Church is Grade 2 listed, and the finest public building in Woldingham. It was designed by Sir Herbert Baker, one of the most eminent architects of the first half of the 20th century. There is a busy programme of services, including weddings and funerals. Different local groups hold events in the church room. The tower, and its clock, are seen by everyone coming up Station Road into the Village.

Why can’t the church meet the cost?
The church is funded entirely by donations and legacies. It will make a substantial contribution to the cost of the tower project, but its limited resources are also needed for the running costs of St Paul’s and St Agatha’s, and for its charitable activities.

How much should I give?
Please be as generous as your resources allow. Provided that you pay basic rate tax, Gift Aid will apply, so that every pound given will be increased by 25p at no cost to you. A permanent record of those donors who so wish will in due course be displayed in the Church Room.

Horticultural Society Scarecrow Challenge

SOCIETIES & FAMILIES CHALLENGE

All Village Societies and Groups are invited to enter this Summer Show’s Grand Challenge – to construct a self-supporting Scarecrow. The show takes place on Saturday 7th of July 2018. The Cost of Entry to this Challenge is £2 with entry fees going to the Pancreatic Cancer Research.

Tandridge Together Lottery – supporting local voluntary groups

Do you belong to a local good cause or voluntary group which needs help with fundraising?

Tandridge Together Lottery is a weekly online lottery, with a top prize of £25,000. All funds raised will go to good causes that benefit residents in the Tandridge district.

• Tickets go on sale 22 February 2018

• First draw 31 March 2018

Any good cause operating within the Tandridge district can join the lottery to raise funds for their organisation. These can include local charities, community projects and groups such as schools, sports teams and Scout or Guides groups.

Good causes which support the Tandridge Together Lottery will keep 50% of the ticket price of all tickets they sell.

How will the lottery work?

• Lottery tickets costing £1 will be available via a new lottery website.

• Anyone buying a ticket will select the cause they want to support from those registered on the website.

• 50p of the £1 ticket price will go directly to the chosen good cause, with 10p in every pound going into a fund for the Council to distribute in the form of small grants, to a wide range of good cause projects who apply for support in the Tandridge district. The rest of the money will go towards prizes and administration costs. There is no cost to the charities, projects and groups who sign up.

• Good causes will get support with marketing materials to help them promote the lottery to their supporters.

A huge thank you to all who helped make this year’s fete on 10th June 2017 such a success!

Thanks to a great number of willing helpers, contributors and visitors, a wonderful afternoon was had by all and it was a great village occasion, bringing people of all ages together. A total of just over £2,700 was raised, which will be shared between the two churches here in Woldingham and the Eusebia Hope Foundation, enabling children in Kenya to have access to food, housing and healthcare.
